“Prince Kuhio Day”photo

Prince Kuhio Day is an official¬† holiday in the state of Hawaii, celebrated annually on March 26 to mark the birth of Prince Jonah KŇęhiŇć Kalaniana Ľole. ¬†¬†¬†He is best known as the “Prince of People”, dedicating his life to the future well-being of his people.


He is best remembered for his successful effort to get congress to pass the 1920 Hawaiian Homes Commission Act to provide homesteads for native Hawaiians. Here on the island of Maui, several Destination Resorts Hawaii’s employees are proud Hawaiian homeowners on these lands.¬†¬† On Saturday, March 30, Prince Kuhio is honored in a Ho’olaulea’a in Lahaina from 9 am – 5pm with exhibits, Hawaiian games, food booths, lei making, crafters and entertainment.
